Microsoft has announced plans to connect Google Calendar and contacts to Outlook 2016 for Mac later this year. Outlook for Mac is already working with Gmail accounts to manage emails, but this first update indicates that Gmail users can use Microsoft software to manage a database of contacts and calendar entries.
Outlook for Mac has long supported and administered your Gmail support. With these updates, Outlook now also syncs your calendar and Google contacts. This experience will be very similar to what we know today in Outlook, with the support of all the key events - how to add, delete, edit time and location.
The members of the Office of Insider Information Quick Applications will be the first test of Google Calendar and synchronization of contacts in Outlook 2016 for Mac to decompress from today. Based on tests and comments, Microsoft says support for the Google calendar and contacts is about Office 365 clients with Outlook 2016 for Mac.
As soon as updates are used to all users, Google Calendar and Contact help for Mac software will provide parity with versions for iOS and Android users of Google services.
Microsoft plans new email features for Gmail users as well:
To date, many of the best and most advanced features of Outlook e-mail are only available to those with Outlook.com, Office 365 or Exchange email addresses. With this update, you can also take advantage of the advanced features of Outlook with your Gmail account, including Inbox focus and a richer experience for booking and shipping packages. Additional extension features are available to update this update more widely.
